Our lunch sponsor for this month will be David Burleson with Havenwood Behavioral Health at Springbrook. Havenwood Behavioral Health at Springbrook is a Joint Commission Accredited Psychiatric Hospital that has been in business for 38 years. The hospital is located in Travelers Rest, SC and is a Service Disable Veteran Owen Business and a “Provider of Choice” of the VA in South Carolina. Havenwood specializes in Adult Inpatient Psych, Detox and Dual Diagnosis for Substance Use Disorders, and Geriatric Psychiatry. Our Educational Speaker will be Dr. Nancy Wicker. Nancy Hart Wicker, MD is a South Carolina native who graduated with her medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina and went on to complete family medicine residency at Self Regional Hospital in Greenwood, SC. After residency, she practiced as a hospitalist for several years, and while she was a hospitalist, she developed an interested in palliative care. When the local medical director of Hospice and Palliative Care of the Piedmont retired, she started working as both a hospitalist and the medical director for the local hospice doing both inpatient hospice at their hospice house and also with the homecare patients. It was in hospice that she found her passion for hospice and palliative care. She went on to complete her hospice and palliative care fellowship at Prisma Health Richland in Columbia, SC and has now returned to Greenwood to continue her work as the medical director for hospice. She has a special interest in advance care planning and underserved populations.
