Class Description

As the Stonewall Generation gets older and LGBT Baby Boomers begin to access senior living services, there are changes you can expect to see in your communities or organizations. The goal for this session is to review what is working and to start planning ahead to ensure we can all provide person-centered care for LGBT older adults. We’ll discuss current best practices for LGBT inclusion, looking to future trends, as well as new research on LGBT people and dementia, how to activate LGBT support structures and chosen family and the current rights and protections that apply to LGBT older adults. We will also touch on the issue of HIV/AIDS as it relates to the LGBT population, including best practices for working with older adults living with HIV or AIDS.

Class Credit Information

CE Approvals: 1.0 credit hour for Nurses, Social Workers, Case Managers and Nursing Home Administrators.
