This is Part II of a two-part Alzheimer's Association education program on Legal and Financial Planning for Alzheimer's. The diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease makes planning for the future more important than ever. Concerns about care provision, costs of care and programs that can help offset costs mean families need accurate information about legal and financial planning specific to the disease.
Part II, Financial Planning for Alzheimer’s Disease, covers how to pay for the level of care that may be needed for those with Alzheimer's and other dementias. After assessing current and anticipated long-term costs, the program will review the various resources that may be brought to bear including:
• Personal financial resources
• Reverse mortgages
• Long-term care insurance
• Federal tax deductions
• State tax deductions and credits
• Informal and formal care options
• Medicare and Medicaid
• State Health Insurance Counseling and Assistance Program (SHIP)
• Veteran’s Benefits
• For those with Younger-Onset, Social Security Disability Income (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
